About Markdown to HTML

The Markdown to HTML converter turns Markdown text into HTML and shows both a rendered Preview and the raw Source. It handles the everyday syntax: headings, emphasis, links, code, lists, quotes and rules. The output is sanitized, so scripts and event handlers pasted into the input are stripped before you copy anything.

How to use it

1. Type or paste your text into the Markdown box.
2. Click Convert to HTML. Conversion runs when you press the button, not as you type.
3. Read the rendered result on the Preview tab.
4. Switch to the Source tab to see the HTML markup itself.
5. Use the copy button above the output to copy the source.

Questions about Markdown to HTML

Which Markdown features are covered?

Headings from level one to three, bold, italic, links, inline code, fenced code blocks, bulleted and numbered lists, blockquotes, horizontal rules and paragraphs separated by blank lines.

What is not supported?

Images, tables, nested lists, strikethrough and headings deeper than level three. Bullets must start with an asterisk and a space, because a hyphen at the start of a line is left as plain text.

Why is my first paragraph missing its p tags?

Paragraph wrapping is triggered by a blank line before the text. A paragraph at the very top of the input, with no preceding blank line, is left unwrapped. Start with a heading or an empty line.

Is pasted HTML kept?

Safe HTML passes through, but dangerous parts such as script elements, inline event handlers and unsafe attributes are removed by a sanitizer, so the preview and the copied source always match.
