Favicon Generator

About Favicon generator

Make a site icon from a letter, an emoji or an image you already have and export it as PNG files or a single multi-size ICO file. The tool draws to a 128 by 128 canvas in your browser and rescales for each size you tick. It fits developers launching a new site or side project who need something better than the default browser icon.

How to use it

1. On the Source block choose Text / Emoji or Image.
2. For text, type one or two characters or an emoji, then adjust Font size, Font family (System UI, Serif, Monospace or Rounded), the Bold switch and the background and text colors.
3. For an image, drop a file on the dashed area or click it to browse, then pick Fit or Cover, set Image size as a percentage, and choose a background color or tick Transparent background.
4. Check the three previews at 16, 32 and 64 pixels to see how the mark holds up when tiny.
5. In Export tick the sizes you need (16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 192 or 512) and pick PNG or ICO.
6. Press the download button, which reads Download favicon.ico or the number of PNG files.

• Turning a company logo PNG into a proper ICO file that includes 16 and 32 pixel versions.
• Producing 192 and 512 pixel PNGs to reference from a web app manifest.
• Testing an emoji as a favicon to see whether it stays readable at 16 pixels.

Questions about Favicon generator

What exactly ends up inside the ICO file?

The tool renders each ticked size of 256 pixels or less as a PNG and packs them into one ICO container. If none of your ticked sizes qualify it falls back to 16 and 32.

Why do I get several separate PNG downloads?

In PNG mode there is one file per ticked size, named favicon-16.png, favicon-32.png and so on. With exactly one size ticked the file is simply named favicon.png. Your browser may ask permission to save multiple files.

Can I untick every size?

No. The last remaining checkbox refuses to clear, because an export with no sizes would produce nothing.

Which image types can I upload?

Any raster image the browser reports as an image, such as PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP. The file is read locally by your browser and is not sent anywhere.

Why does my emoji look different from what I expected?

Emoji are drawn with your operating system's emoji font, so the artwork matches your device and may differ on other platforms. Text glyphs use the font family you select, falling back to whatever your system provides.
