About JSON viewer

The JSON viewer turns a JSON document into a collapsible tree that you can expand, search and copy from. It shows the root type, item count, nesting depth and size at a glance, and it lets you grab the path to any value. Use it when a large API response is too dense to read as raw text.

How to use it

1. Paste JSON into the JSON Input box, or use Load file or drag a .json file onto it.
2. Use Format / Prettify or Minify to rewrite the text in the input box itself, and Copy to take it.
3. Read the badges above the tree: root type, keys or items, depth and size.
4. Click Expand all or Collapse all, or open single nodes with the arrow beside them.
5. Type in Search keys / values to filter the tree, and hover a row to copy its path or its subtree.

When to use it

• Exploring a large API response to find where a particular field lives.
• Getting the exact accessor path to paste into code for a deeply nested value.
• Skimming a config or package file without reading every brace.
• Estimating how deep and heavy a payload is before you design a schema for it.

Questions about JSON viewer

What size can it handle?

Input over 500,000 characters is rejected with a message. Documents with more than 2,000 nodes still parse, but the interactive tree is replaced by a scrollable block of formatted JSON.

What does the search look at?

Key names and string values, ignoring case. Numbers, booleans and null are not searched. While a search term is active, the branches that contain a match stay open.

How are paths written?

Dot notation for ordinary keys and square brackets for array positions, such as users[0].name. Keys with spaces or punctuation appear as bracketed quoted strings, and the root itself has no path.

Does Format / Prettify change my data?

It re-serializes the parsed value with two-space indentation, so whitespace changes and very large integers may lose precision. Key order and values are otherwise kept.

Which files can I load?

Files ending in .json or with the application/json type. The file is read into the input box by your browser, and other file types are ignored without an error.
