About Prefix and suffix adder

The prefix and suffix adder puts text at the start, end or both ends of every line, or removes a known prefix and suffix from lines that already have one. A {n} token inserts a line number wherever you want it. It quickly turns a plain list into bullets, quoted strings, SQL values or numbered items.

How to use it

1. Paste one item per line into the Input lines box and choose the Add or Remove tab.
2. Type the Prefix and Suffix. The prefix starts as a dash and a space.
3. Under Apply to, choose All lines, First N or Last N, then set How many lines if needed.
4. Adjust Skip blank lines, and use {n} with Start numbering at and Zero-pad to width for numbers, then copy or download the output.

When to use it

• Turning a list of names into Markdown bullets by adding a dash and space at the start.
• Wrapping every value in quotes and adding a trailing comma to build an array or SQL IN list.
• Adding an https:// prefix to a column of bare domains.
• Stripping a common label or trailing semicolon from many lines at once with the Remove tab.

Questions about Prefix and suffix adder

Are blank lines given a prefix?

Not by default. Skip blank lines is on, so empty and whitespace-only lines stay untouched, and they are not counted when you pick First N or Last N.

How does the {n} token work?

Type {n} in either the prefix or suffix and it is replaced by the running line number, starting at your chosen value. Padding to a width adds leading zeros, so 3 becomes 03 or 003.

What does Strip every repeated occurrence do?

In Remove mode, only one copy of the prefix or suffix is removed by default. With this option on, it keeps removing while the line still starts or ends with it, so ---- can vanish entirely.

Does it keep Windows line endings?

No. The tool reads CRLF and CR as line breaks and writes plain LF in the result, which is fine for most editors and programs.
