Image Blur

About Image Blur

Image Blur softens a picture with a Gaussian-style blur whose radius you set from 1 to 50 pixels. Designers use it for backgrounds behind text, to hide faces or license plates in casual sharing, or to create a depth-of-field mood. The preview is rebuilt as you drag the slider, using the browser's canvas filter.

How to use it

1. Drop an image into the upload area. It is blurred right away at the default radius of 8 pixels.
2. Drag the Blur radius slider between 1 and 50 and watch the Result preview update.
3. Compare with the original preview at the top, then press Download to save the blurred PNG.

Same radius, different look

Blur radius 8 on a 400 px wide icon versus a 4000 px wide photo

The icon is heavily smeared, while the photo looks only slightly soft, because the radius is measured in the image's own pixels, not on screen.

When to use it

• Creating a soft background image for a hero section where headline text must stay readable.
• Obscuring a house number or a face in a picture shared with friends.
• Making a placeholder preview that hints at an image before it loads.
• Simulating out-of-focus areas in a mockup or presentation slide.

Questions about Image Blur

Why does the same radius look different on different images?

The radius is in pixels of the source file. A 4000 pixel photo needs a much larger value than a 400 pixel graphic for the same visual softness, so scale your setting with the image size.

Is blurring a secure way to hide information?

Not for anything sensitive. Light blur can be partly reversed by software, and readable text can survive moderate settings. For passwords or IDs, cover the area with a solid block instead.

Why are the borders sometimes lighter or see-through?

The canvas filter samples beyond the edge, where there is nothing, so pixels at the border can fade toward transparent at larger radii. The PNG output keeps that transparency.

Does it use my graphics card?

It uses the browser's canvas filter, which most browsers accelerate on the GPU, so even large radii are quick. Speed depends on your device and image dimensions.
