Image Rotate & Flip

About Image Rotate & Flip

This tool rotates an image a quarter or half turn, or mirrors it horizontally or vertically. It is the quick fix for a phone photo that landed sideways, a scan that was fed upside down, or a selfie you want to un-mirror. You get a downloadable PNG with no quality settings to think about.

How to use it

1. Drop your image into the upload area, or click to browse.
2. Press 90° CW, 90° CCW or 180° in the Rotate group, or Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical in the Flip group.
3. Look at the Result preview, which shows the new pixel dimensions next to the file size.
4. Press Download to save the transformed image as a PNG.

Quarter turn swaps the dimensions

A 4000 x 3000 landscape photo, then 90° CW

A 3000 x 4000 portrait image. A 180° turn or a flip keeps 4000 x 3000.

When to use it

• Straightening a photo that displays sideways because its orientation tag was ignored by another program.
• Turning a scanned page that was fed in upside down.
• Mirroring a front-camera selfie so writing on a shirt reads correctly.
• Flipping a product picture so the subject faces into a layout instead of off the edge.

Questions about Image Rotate & Flip

Can I rotate and flip in one go?

Not in a single session. Each button starts again from your original image rather than from the previous result, so pressing 90° CW twice still gives one quarter turn. Download the first result and upload it again to combine effects.

Why is the output always a PNG?

PNG is lossless, so the pixels are not degraded by the transformation. The trade-off is that a photograph saved as PNG can be larger than the original JPEG.

Is the picture rotated by any angle?

Only in 90 degree steps plus flips. Free-angle rotation would leave empty corners and require cropping, which this tool leaves to the Image Crop tool.

Does the file get smaller or blurrier?

Right-angle rotations and mirrors move pixels without resampling, so sharpness is unchanged. Only the encoding differs, which is why the file size can change.
