About Safe URL Checker

The Safe URL Checker inspects the shape of a link and flags patterns common in phishing and scam addresses: raw IP hosts, shorteners, lookalike brand names, punycode, odd ports and more. It never visits the page and consults no blocklist, so treat it as a quick sanity check before you click something unfamiliar.

How to use it

1. Paste the link into the URL field. A missing scheme is treated as https.
2. Select Check URL.
3. Read the verdict: URL appears safe, Suspicious URL or Dangerous URL.
4. Review the Flags table to see exactly which patterns triggered the rating.
5. If anything is flagged, type the real site address by hand instead of following the link.

Questions about Safe URL Checker

Does this tool open the link or send it anywhere?

No. The analysis runs as a set of pattern checks in your browser and makes no network request, so the address is not fetched and not transmitted by this tool.

What makes a URL rated Dangerous rather than Suspicious?

Any flag makes it at least Suspicious. It becomes Dangerous when two or more of the serious flags apply: an IP address host, a punycode domain, brand impersonation or a phishing keyword in the hostname.

Why was a genuine subdomain like maps.google.com flagged?

The brand test only accepts the exact domains name.com and www.name.com. Real subdomains of a known brand contain the name too, so they trigger the impersonation flag. Read the flag as a prompt to look closer, not a verdict.

Can a URL marked safe still be malicious?

Yes. A freshly registered domain with a clean-looking name passes every pattern test. The tool cannot see page content, domain age or reputation, so a safe result means only that no warning pattern matched.

Which shorteners does it recognize?

A fixed list of ten: bit.ly, tinyurl.com, t.co, goo.gl, ow.ly, is.gd, buff.ly, adf.ly, rb.gy and shorturl.at. Other shorteners are not detected.
