Choose any of eleven algorithms from the Hash Algorithm menu, SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA-512/224, SHA-512/256 or SHA3-224 through SHA3-512, and get the lowercase hex digest of your text.

SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 use the browser's Web Crypto engine, and the remaining seven are computed by code inside the page. Every result matches sha256sum, OpenSSL and standard language libraries for the same UTF-8 bytes.

Good to know. Web Crypto offers only SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512, so the other seven algorithms run as JavaScript on the page. That code is checked against the NIST example values for every size, and it handles multi-megabyte input in a single pass. Files are held in memory whole, so the limit is what your browser can spare.
SHA-1 and the SHA-2 family (SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 and the SHA-512/t variants) were designed by the NSA; SHA-3 (Keccak) comes from a separate public competition. SHA-256 and above are considered secure for most applications. SHA-1 is no longer considered secure against well-funded attackers.
