WEBP to PNG Converter

About WEBP to PNG

Converts a WebP image to PNG so it opens in editors, slide software and older apps that do not read WebP. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which makes it the safe general-purpose target for images you have downloaded from websites. Note that a lossy WebP does not become sharper as PNG; the file simply stores today's pixels without further loss.

How to use it

1. Drop a WebP file into the drop zone, or click to pick a .webp file.
2. Look at the Source preview to check the image and any transparent areas.
3. Press Convert to PNG. No quality slider is offered because PNG has none.
4. Review the Output panel, then press Download PNG.
5. Press Reset to clear everything before converting another image.

When to use it

• Saving a WebP picture from a website in a form your image editor will open.
• Keeping a transparent sticker or logo transparent while changing its format.
• Sending a graphic to someone whose software rejects WebP attachments.
• Getting a lossless working copy before doing several rounds of editing.

Questions about WEBP to PNG

Will the PNG be bigger than the WebP?

Usually yes, often by a factor of two to five for photographs. PNG stores every pixel exactly, while WebP in its lossy mode throws away detail to get small.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes. The tool draws the WebP onto a transparent canvas and writes a PNG, and it only fills a white background when the target is JPG, so alpha survives here.

What about animated WebP files?

You get one still frame, normally the first, because the canvas holds a single image. The animation is not carried into the PNG.

Does converting to PNG restore detail lost in the WebP?

No. Compression artifacts already in the WebP are copied faithfully. PNG only prevents any further loss from being added on top.
