Converts a BMP to WebP with a quality slider, turning an uncompressed bitmap into one of the smallest web-ready formats.
Converts a BMP to WebP with a quality slider, turning an uncompressed bitmap into one of the smallest web-ready formats. WebP handles lossy photographs and supports transparency, and every current browser can display it. This is the right target when you are optimizing pictures for a website and are starting from raw bitmaps.
A 24-bit BMP, 640 x 480 pixels: 1,920 bytes per row x 480 + 54 = 921,654 bytes, converted at the default quality of 85.
A 640 x 480 WebP encoded at quality 0.85. Because the source is uncompressed, the WebP is a small fraction of 921,654 bytes.
Good to know. WebP writing depends on the browser's canvas encoder. Chrome, Edge and Firefox provide one; if your browser does not, the tool shows an error instead of saving a mislabeled file.
.bmp allowed.
