Opens an iPhone or iPad HEIC photo and saves it as a genuine 24-bit bitmap, mainly for older Windows programs that only take bitmaps.
Opens an iPhone or iPad HEIC photo and saves it as a genuine 24-bit bitmap, mainly for older Windows programs that only take bitmaps. HEIC files are compact and true BMPs are enormous, so expect a very large download. The HEIC is first decoded by a WebAssembly decoder that ships with the page, because most browsers cannot open HEIC directly.
A 4032 x 3024 iPhone HEIC photo of roughly 2 MB.
A genuine 24-bit BMP of this frame would be 12,096 x 3,024 + 54 = 36,578,358 bytes, about 35 MB. The file this tool writes has exactly that size, because the pixels are stored raw.
Good to know. Photo metadata such as location and camera model is not carried into the result. If the tool says it could not decode the HEIC, the file may be corrupt or use an unsupported variant.
