About SVG Optimizer

SVG Optimizer trims the markup of an SVG so it downloads faster and is cleaner to embed. It strips editor leftovers such as comments, metadata and empty groups, rounds long decimals to two places, and shows a before and after preview so you can confirm nothing looks different. You can upload a file or paste code.

How to use it

1. Drop an SVG file onto the drop zone, or paste markup into the Or paste SVG markup box.
2. Press Optimize SVG. Invalid markup shows a parse error instead.
3. Compare the Original Preview and Optimized Preview. Use the enlarge button on either to inspect details.
4. Read the Before, After and percent saved badges, then press Copy or Download.

When to use it

• Shrinking icons exported from a design tool before inlining them into a page.
• Cleaning an SVG downloaded from an asset library so it carries no editor metadata.
• Removing XML declarations and comments before embedding an image in a component.
• Checking a logo file to see how much of its size was non-visual clutter.

Questions about SVG Optimizer

What exactly does it remove?

The XML declaration, doctype, comments, metadata blocks, description elements, extra title elements, empty groups, editor-specific Inkscape and Sodipodi attributes, and unnecessary whitespace. Numbers with three or more decimals are rounded to two.

Will it change how my graphic looks?

Rounding to two decimals is the only change that touches geometry, and it is normally invisible. Check the two previews side by side, and keep the original if your artwork depends on very fine precision.

Why did a script or link disappear?

A safety pass runs first and removes script and foreignObject elements, event handlers such as onclick, javascript: links and references to outside files. This prevents a downloaded SVG from running code when opened.

Is this a full path-rewriting minifier?

No. It performs text-level cleanup only and does not merge paths, convert shapes or rewrite path data, so the savings are smaller on already lean files. The badge shows No change when nothing could be trimmed.
