List Randomizer

About List randomizer

The list randomizer shuffles a list into a new random order. Paste one item per line, or pick a different delimiter if your items sit on a single line, and each click of the button gives a fresh arrangement. It is used for drawing names, setting a presentation order, mixing quiz questions and any situation where you want an unbiased order.

How to use it

1. Enter your items in the List Items box, one per line.
2. The Delimiter menu starts on Newline. If your items are separated by something else, choose Comma, Semicolon, Pipe, Tab or Space.
3. Click Randomize List.
4. Copy the shuffled list from the results panel, or click the button again for a different order.

Shuffling a comma-separated line

red, green, blue (delimiter: comma)

One of the six orders, for example: blue, red, green

When to use it

• Deciding who presents first in a meeting or class by shuffling the roster.
• Randomizing the order of quiz questions or answer options before publishing them.
• Picking a raffle or giveaway order from a pasted list of entrants.
• Shuffling a playlist, reading list or set of practice problems so you do not always start with the same one.

Questions about List randomizer

How random is the shuffle?

It uses the Fisher-Yates algorithm, which gives every ordering an equal chance, driven by the browser's Math.random. That is fine for games and drawings but not intended for security or regulated lotteries.

What happens to blank lines?

They are dropped. Any item that is empty or only whitespace is filtered out before shuffling, and the results heading shows how many real items were shuffled.

Are spaces around each item kept when I choose Comma?

No. Each item is trimmed, so a list typed as red, green, blue comes back as three clean items joined by commas with no leading spaces. Text inside an item is left as it is.

Does Tab really split on tab characters?

Yes. Newline and Tab are real line-break and tab characters, so a column copied from a spreadsheet row can be shuffled. Windows-style line endings are handled too.

Can I get the same order again?

No, there is no seed option. Every click produces a new arrangement, so copy the result you want to keep before you press the button again.
